The MOEW monitors the condition of dams

As of 16.03.2026, the amount of available stored volumes in the complex and significant dams is 4892.4 million cubic meters, which represents 74.85% of their total volume.
The Asenovets and Pchelina dams are 100% full, and the Srechenska Bara, Hristo Smirnenski, Kamchia, Yasna Polyana, Borovitsa, Studena, Aheloy, Domlyan, Aleksandar Stamboliyski and Krichim dams are over 90% full. Asenovets, Pchelina, and Pancharevo are overflowing. Preventive releases to ensure free volumes are being carried out at the Studena, Trakiets, and Aheloy dams.
According to data from the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH), by the end of this week and at the beginning of next week, many places will experience rain, and in the mountains - snow. Today (16.03) and in the next three days, river levels will remain without significant changes. Water quantities will be below the thresholds for concern.
The Ministry of Environment and Water (MOEW) reminds local authorities to implement the measures in the Flood Risk Management Plans 2022-2027 and to monitor current hydrometeorological information and forecasts published on the official website of the ministry for dangerous phenomena.
The MOEW manages water resources in 52 significant and complex dams.
