The MOEW overturned a decision by RIEW - Burgas and ordered a re-evaluation of the need for an environmental assessment
30 Oct, 2025 | 15:27The Minister of Environment and Water Manol Genov has revoked a decision by the Director of the Regional Inspectorate for Environment and Water - Burgas in assessment of the need to carry out an Environmental Impact Assessment of a project for amending the Detailed Development Plan for Regulation and Development of Properties on the Cadastral Map of the town of Sozopol, Alepu locality, Sozopol municipality, with the client Arkutino Friends EOOD.
With his decision of August 8 this year, the Director of the Regional Inspectorate for Environment and Water - Burgas had established that an ecological assessment should not be carried out for the amendment of the plan and that it is unlikely to have a significant impact on the protected area BG0001001 "Ropotamo" for the protection of natural habitats and wild flora and fauna and on the protected area BG0002041 "Ropotamo Complex" for the protection of wild birds.
The main arguments for the cancellation of this decision are that the documentation on the file contains contradictory information and the facts regarding the likely impacts by the amendment to the Detailed Development Plan for Regulation and Development of Properties on the two Natura zones have not been clarified.
The file has been returned to the RIEW - Burgas for a re-evaluation.
