The MOEW requested preventive actions to clean up waste pollution in unauthorized places, including in riverbeds and ravines
07 Mar, 2026 | 13:55- The regional inspectorates for environment and water in the country have sent instructions to all mayors of municipalities and the managers of the regional road departments for cleaning actions
In connection with the onset of the spring season and the expected snowmelt, which may lead to an increase in river levels and the creation of prerequisites for floods, the 15 regional environmental and water inspectorates (RIEWs) have sent letters to the mayors of all municipalities and to the managers of the regional road departments.
The letters provide instructions for organizing and carrying out inspections for the presence of waste-contaminated terrains and for their timely cleaning. The priority during the inspections should be the bypasses of problem areas, including river beds, ravines and their adjacent territories.
If pollution is detected, it is necessary to organize their immediate cleaning, as well as to take effective measures to prevent re-pollution. Possible measures include installing video surveillance, restricting access to risk areas, providing security and other appropriate actions.
Regional inspectorates will gradually carry out follow-up control. If violations are identified, the relevant administrative actions will be taken within the framework of the current legislation.
The initiative follows the management position of zero tolerance for waste pollution. Despite the measures taken so far and the efforts made, the results remain unsatisfactory and require more active actions by all responsible institutions.
The goal is to achieve real results for the benefit of citizens and environmental protection, as well as to promote greater public responsibility for the cleanliness of settlements and nature.
