Minister Asen Lichev approved the resumption of the “Green Olympics”, supported by the Ministry of Environment and Water from 2012 to 2019, which had established itself as the most popular online educational initiative that stimulates children and youths to expand their knowledge on nature and its conservation and contributes to building environmental culture.

In 2021 the organizers from “Academika BG” plan to launch the initiative in mid-October. Traditionally, the competition is held with the financial support of the Ministry of Environment and Water.

The initiative targets students from 1st to 12th grade from the entire country, as well as Bulgarian children living abroad. Every year more than 5,000 children and young people take part in it. The competition takes place through an online platform created to this purpose with tests in three age groups. The last question is an open-answer - a short essay is to be written on a particular topic (air, water, waste, flora and fauna, climate, etc.). One winner is announced from each of the three age groups and three attractive prizes are awarded to the students.
