The process of developing specific and detailed nature protection objectives for the protected areas within the ecological network "Natura 2000" continues. The MOEW published for public discussion specific and detailed nature protection objectives for 22 new protected areas. They were developed by an expert team under the leadership of the Institute of Biodiversity and Ecosystem Research at the Bulgarian Academy of Science.

Conservation objectives at the level of a protected area must be met to ensure the long-term conservation of the natural habitat types and species within that area. These objectives are the basis for determining conservation measures and are based on scientific knowledge of the condition of the respective area, the species and natural habitats subject to conservation within it, as well as the main impacts and threats that may affect them.

Conservation objectives have been developed specifically for each protected area in compliance with guidelines by the European Commission for achieving full compliance with the requirements of Directive 92/43/EEC on the protection of natural habitats and wild flora and fauna and Directive 2009/147/EC on the protection of wild birds.

The active participation of all competent authorities, stakeholders, and the general public is of key importance for establishing conservation objectives for the “Natura 2000” ecological network areas.
