On 15 and 16 April 2026, experts from the Regional Inspectorate of Environment and Water-Sofia carried out unscheduled inspections at “Bobov Dol TPP” AD, Golemo Selo village, Bobov Dol municipality, in connection with reports received from citizens regarding air pollution.

The inspections were conducted both outside the production site and on the power station’s premises, with a tour of several points in the area to visually check for organised and unorganised emissions. During the inspections , fugitive emissions were identified from the boiler house building, flues and other parts of the production site, as well as controlled emissions from the plant’s exhaust stacks.

During the inspections, it was established that part of the waste gases generated during the operation of the power boilers do not pass entirely through the designated process route via the designated treatment facilities, including the desulphurisation plant, but are released as fugitive emissions through compromised sections of the flue gas ducts. This constitutes a breach of the conditions set out in the company’s current complex permit.

An administrative penalty procedure has been initiated for the established violation, and a penalty notice will be issued within the statutory time limit.

The Regional Inspectorate of Environment and Water-Sofia will continue to exercise enhanced control over the activities of the “TPP Bobov Dol” AD in order to ensure compliance with environmental legislation and prevent air pollution in the area.
