The Regional Inspectorate of Environment and Water - Veliko Tarnovo will unseal the shut-down facilities at Kronospan’s particleboard production line

  • The company requested a stay of the preliminary enforcement of the interim measure following the Supreme Administrative Court’s ruling

On June 15, the Regional Inspectorate of Environment and Water – Veliko Tarnovo will conduct an inspection of “Kronospan Bulgaria” EOOD following a request received on June 11, 2026, from the company to take action to unseal equipment on the particleboard (PB) production line located on the premises of the wood panel production facility in Veliko Tarnovo.

The request is in connection with the ruling of the Supreme Administrative Court dated June 9 of this year, in which the court ordered a suspension of the preliminary enforcement of the order issued by the Director of the Regional Inspectorate of Environment and Water - Veliko Tarnovo imposing a Compulsory Administrative Measure (CAM) - the suspension of production activities on the particleboard (PB) production line at the Kronospan Bulgaria EOOD site.

The scope of the coercive measure includes one dryer, one hot-air facility with a thermal capacity of 45 MW, and one hot-air facility with a thermal capacity of 3 MW. Today, the Regional Inspectorate of Environment and Water – Veliko Tarnovo will take steps to unseal the suspended facilities. The company is to gradually and safely resume operations on the particleboard production line.

During the inspection, the measures taken by the company to optimize the production process and limit potential emissions and odors will be assessed, in accordance with the aforementioned court ruling. The Regional Inspectorate of Environment and Water – Veliko Tarnovo will report on the results of the inspection in a timely manner.
