The situation in the town of Sredets in connection to the raging fire: actions taken and current air indicators

In connection with a fire in the area of the town of Sredets, Burgas Region, the Regional Inspectorate for Environment and Water – Burgas informs that, according to data from field measurements carried out with portable equipment by the Regional Laboratory – Burgas at the Executive Environment Agency (EEA), elevated values of methane and carbon dioxide in the atmospheric air have been recorded at the moment.

In order to ensure continuous monitoring and preventive control of air quality, the Regional Inspectorate for Environment and Water – Burgas has requested a mobile automatic station from the EEA, which will be positioned in the area and will carry out constant measurements in the coming days, and if necessary, the control will continue next week.

The Ministry of Interior has imposed a partial evacuation of residents of the city in order to protect the health and safety of the population.

The Regional Inspectorate for Environment and Water – Burgas appeals to citizens in the affected area to keep their windows closed as a preventive measure and not to panic. All relevant institutions are working in close coordination to control the situation and protect public health.

Due to the fire in the town of Sredets, constant monitoring of the quality of atmospheric air is also conducted in Yambol, where the black cloud from the fire is also visible. The station there currently reports slightly elevated standards, but there is no danger to the population.

The Inspectorate will continue to inform the public in a timely manner of any changes in the data on the quality of atmospheric air and the development of the situation.
