The Ministry of Health announced the start of the 15th edition of the National Student Competition “Ambassadors of Health”. The purpose of the competition is to promote a healthy lifestyle among young people, emphasizing the prevention of behavioral and health risk factors related to unhealthy eating, low physical activity, alcohol abuse, and smoking.

The initiative is by the Ministry of Health in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Science, the Ministry of Environment and Water, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Ministry of Culture, the State Agency for Child Protection, the Regional Office of the World Health Organization in Bulgaria, and the Bulgarian Youth Red Cross.

The competition started today and runs until November 5. Classes of students and yearly groups of classes from 1st to 12th grade from the entire country, divided into three age categories, are eligible to participate: 1-4th, 5-7th, and 8-12th grades. Teachers of one or more classes can participate in the projects, regardless of whether they are from the same yearly group of classes.

The competition will take place in two phases:

  • First phase: from March 20th to April 28th, participants must prepare and send to the Ministry of Health their projects in the field of prevention of chronic non-communicable diseases.
  • Second phase: from May 5 to October 30, participants implement and report planned project activities.

An expert committee, composed of representatives of the Ministry of Health and the institutions and organizations - partners in the competition, will perform the ranking of the participants by November 5th, 2023. The results will be published on the websites of the organizer and its partners. The winners will be officially awarded in December 2023.

Each of the partnering institutions will nominate and provide prizes for the 12 best projects: 9 projects ranked first, second and third (3 in each age category: 1-4th,  5-7th, and grades 8-12th grades) and 3 projects ranked for incentive awards – one award for each age category.

The Ministry of Health, the WHO Regional Office in Bulgaria, and the Bulgarian Youth Red Cross will each provide one award in the category “Special achievements in the field of public health protection”.
