There is no danger for the Bulgarian coast from potential spills after the incident in Romania

There is no danger for the Bulgarian coast from a possible spill from the explosion in the oil refinery 25 km North of the Romanian city of Constanta. This is indicated by a computer simulation that covers the first 24 hours after 7p.m. today. The simulation was prepared by the “Center for Integrated Management and Monitoring of the Coastal Zone” at the Higher Naval School “Nikola Yonkov Vaptsarov”. The analysis was commissioned this afternoon by the MOEW, which funds the construction of the Center.

The visualization suggests that even in the occurrence of a spill, this would not threaten the Bulgarian coast at this stage. In the sea area of the refinery (up to 10 nautical miles from the coast) the average currents for the day are in the direction North - Northeast. In the event of a potential spill, it would spread to the North from the refinery.

The MOEW continues to monitor the situation and will inform citizens about the developments.
