There is no threat to Bulgaria’s territorial waters following an oil spill in the Black Sea Russian coastal zone

The Ministry of Environment and Water is monitoring the situation regarding the oil spill in the Black Sea – in the area of the Russian city of Tuapse.

The oil slick is in the Russian coastal zone and efforts are underway to contain it.

 “There is no threat to our territorial waters. The distance to Shabla is 840 km. The spill covers an area of 7.74 sq km. The spill is small and has been contained by booms,” said Prof. Miroslav Tsvetkov from the “Nikola Y. Vaptsarov” Naval Academy, based on an analysis of satellite data.

The Ministry of Environment and Water and the “Nikola Y. Vaptsarov” Naval Academy will continue to monitor the situation until the oil spill is fully contained
