Upon completion of the application procedures, directors of the three national parks were appointed

Directors of the three national parks "Rila", "Pirin", and "Central Balkan" were appointed upon the completion of application procedures.

Krasimir Andonov was appointed director of the Rila National Park Directorate (Rila National Park). He joined the Rila National Park in 2002 and held various expert positions, and in the periods 2010-2013 and 2015 - 2022 served as the director of park. He graduated from the "Paisii Hilendarski" Plovdiv University with a major in "Biology and Chemistry".

Nikolay Gotskov, who served as acting director until the application procedure was completed, was appointed for the Central Balkan National Park Directorate (Central Balkan National Park). He has experience in the bodies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Justice, and the municipal administrations of Kazanlak and Pavel Banya. He graduated in Law from the Sofia University of St. Kliment Ohridski" and in "Protection of public order and ensuring safe traffic on the roads" from the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs

Rosen Banenski, a long-time employee of the park, has been appointed director of the Pirin National Park Directorate (DNP Pirin). Since 1995 he has held various expert positions, and in 2013-2022 he served as director of the "Pirin" Park. Banenski graduated from the Veliko Tarnovo University "St. St. Cyril and Methodius", with a Bachelor's degree in "Economic Management" and a Master’s degree in "Tourism".

The management concepts presented and defended before the commission by the candidates who won the competition correspond to the utmost to the policy for the conservation of protected territories. With their experience as managers, in their presentations, all three candidates put a major emphasis on issues related to the organization and structures within national parks. They provided concrete proposals for optimization and improvement of the management and control.

During the interviews, they demonstrated in-depth knowledge and expertise, organizational experience, and leadership qualities, key to the performance of their official duties.

The competition for the selection of park directors was held in three stages:

 

- Selection based on submitted documents;

- Presentation by the applicants of a concept on the topic: "Implementation of a policy for the protection of protected areas - management and control", with a focus on the specific directorate for which the candidate is applying;

- Interview.

 

12 sets of documents were submitted for participation in the competition, as follows:

- for the "Central Balkan" National Park Directorate - 5 applicants.

- for the "Rila" National Park Directorate - 5 applicants.

- for the "Pirin" National Park Directorate - 2 applicants.

Two candidates admitted to the second stage, did not show up for the presentation and defense of the concept. One of the candidates for the "Central Balkan" was not admitted to the interview stage.

All admitted candidates attended the interview stage as follows:

- for the "Central Balkan" National Park Directorate - 3 applicants.

- for the "Rila" National Park Directorate - 5 applicants.

- for the "Pirin" National Park Directorate - 1 applicants.

Based on the overall performance, the defense of their concepts, and their visions for strengthening and development of the national parks, the selection committee ranked the candidates.
