Valeri Mechev takes over the management of the National Park “Pirin”

Since the beginning of March 2022, Valeri Mechev is the new Director of the Directorate “Pirin” National Park. He took over the management of the park with a promise act as a balancer between all users and the executive branch to the interest of people and nature.

“Pirin is not just a protected area. Pirin is a cause for a preserved future. With my return to the position of director of the “Pirin” National Park, I take on the responsibility to protect the public interest in accordance with the laws regulating the management of the protected area,” said Valeri Mechev, who previously served in the same position for the period 2011-2013.

He announced that he will rely on each employee of the directorate, the MOEW, on state and municipal services related to the entire territory of the park, as well as citizens to work together to preserve the invaluable nature of the national park. “My priority will be to motivate the employees of the ‘Pirin’ National Park to achieve this goal, because I realize how important it is to preserve Pirin as a natural resource of national and global importance. This will include transparency in the work of the administration and control over compliance with the regimes and norms in the park. I want to develop educational activities for citizens, especially for young people,” said Valeri Mechev.

Valeri Mechev is a forestry engineer, graduate of the University of Forestry in Sofia with a degree in forestry. He has managerial experience in the field of environmental protection, balanced use of recreational opportunities and natural resources in protected areas, as well as in management and protection of forestry and investment in housing construction and property management.
