Water levels in dams are at 79% of their total capacity

As of May 4, 2026, the total volume of water stored in major and significant dams is 5 163.4 million cubic meters, representing 79% of their total capacity.

The Kamchia and Asenovets reservoirs are 100% full, while at 90% full are the Srechenska Bara, Hristo Smirnenski, Yovkovtsi, Ticha, Yasna Polyana, Borovitsa, Studena, Domlyan, Topolnitsa, Pchelina, Alexander Stamboliyski, Krichim, Kardzhali, and Rozov Kladenets. The Kamchia, Asenovets, Pchelina, and Pancharevo dams are overflowing.

In connection with the expected spring high water levels, if necessary, the companies managing the complex and significant dams will be taking measures to ensure available capacity by preemptively releasing water to accommodate the increased inflow and maintain water levels within optimal limits.

According to data from the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH), light rain is expected today only in isolated areas in the Eastern half of the country, and tomorrow - mainly in Southern Bulgaria and the mountains. On Wednesday, there will be almost no precipitation; there will be rain only in isolated areas in the mountains of Western Bulgaria. On Thursday, rain and thunderstorms are expected in more areas of Western and Central Bulgaria, with precipitation amounting to up to 15 mm.

Today and over the next three days, river levels are expected to drop or remain largely unchanged, with brief rises in mountainous areas due to snowmelt. Water levels will remain below warning thresholds.

The Ministry of Environment and Water reminds local authorities to implement the measures outlined in the 2022–2027 Flood Risk Management Plans and to monitor the latest hydrometeorological information and forecasts for hazardous events published on the Ministry’s official website.
