Water resource levels in dams are maintained
23 Mar, 2026 | 13:40- The NIMH warns of significant rainfall in Haskovo and Kardzhali regions
As of 23.03.2026, the amount of available stored volumes in complex and significant dams is 4845.6 million cubic meters, which represents 74.14% of their total volume.
At 100% full volume is the Asenovets dam, and at over 90% - the Srechenska Bara, Kamchia, Yasna Polyana, Borovitsa, Studena, Domlyan, Pchelina, and Krichim dams. Asenovets, Pchelina and Pancharevo are overflowing. Preventive release to ensure free volumes is carried out at the Studena, Trakiets, and Aheloy dams.
According to the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH), in the first half of this week, rain is expected in some places, and snow in the mountains. For March 24, 2026, the NIMH has issued a first-level warning (yellow code) for significant rainfall in the Haskovo and Kardzhali regions. In the middle of the week, the cloud cover will break and decrease, there will be almost no precipitation. Towards the end, temperatures are expected to drop again, in many places there will be rain, in the mountains - snow.
Today and over the next three days, river levels will remain without significant changes. As a result of the precipitation today and in the afternoon hours of March 24, short-term increases in river levels are expected in places in the Black Sea and East Aegean basins. Water quantities will be below the warning thresholds.
The Ministry of Environment and Water (MOEW) reminds local authorities to implement the measures envisaged in the Flood Risk Management Plans 2022-2027 and to monitor the current hydrometeorological information and forecasts for hazardous phenomena published on the official website of the Ministry.
The MOEW manages water resources in 52 significant and complex dams.
