With over 50 initiatives across the country, we are celebrating European Mobility Week 2025
16 Sep, 2025 | 11:56Today marks the start of the “European Mobility Week”, the European Commission's largest initiative for sustainable urban mobility, which takes place every year from 16 to 22 September. This year's theme, "Mobility for All", invites us to rethink every journey and work to ensure mobility for all people - regardless of their income, location, gender or ability.
Many people face challenges, such as high costs or lack of transport options, which limit their access to jobs, education and essential services. In 2025, EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK calls on us to build societies where transport services are available, accessible, affordable, inclusive and safe, ensuring that public transport, walking and cycling constitute fair opportunities for everyone.
Ten Bulgarian municipalities this year registered on the pan-European platform EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK according to the criteria for participation in the campaign – Burgas, Sofia, Beloslav, Varna, Gabrovo, Panagyurishte, Plovdiv, Ruse, Strazhitsa, and Hisarya. By joining the pan-European initiative, they are included in the huge public visibility of the campaign, which is widely recognized as a driving force towards sustainable urban mobility in Europe and beyond.
The main events in the countries of the European community, including Bulgaria, are held with the aim of encouraging local authorities to provide effective and sustainable travel options in the urban environment, to promote new infrastructure and technologies, to measure air quality and receive feedback from the public, to educate children and young people to behave safely on the road and care for clean air in cities.
The teams of the Ministry of Environment and Water across the country are undertaking over 50 diverse initiatives, which involve thousands of children and young people and are a role-model example of partnership with local authorities and non-governmental organizations in the regions. Outdoor games, exhibitions and music programs, cycling races and quizzes, talks on safe and healthy road traffic and initiatives for car-free travel in over 15 Bulgarian municipalities are included in the program to mark the “European Mobility Week 2025.
The Municipality of Vidin stands out, where by order of the mayor September 22 has been declared a “Car-Free Day”, with a temporary organization of traffic for part of the central streets in the city, as well as the Municipality of Plovdiv, where the Automatic Measuring Station “Kamenitsa” will be open for visits by citizens to monitor the method of measuring atmospheric air quality, to visually familiarize themselves with the equipment and to learn more about car traffic as a source of noise and air pollution.

The Ministry of Environment and Water, through its regional divisions, invites citizens to join the initiatives and support the message of the European Mobility Week 2025 “Mobility for All”.
