Work is to start on an environmental cooperation agreement with Albania

The Deputy Prime Minister for Climate Policy and Minister of Environment and Water Borislav Sandov met with H.E. Ms. Donika Hoxha, Ambassador of the Republic of Albania to Bulgaria. The two expressed satisfaction with the renewed opportunity to deepen cooperation between the two countries.

Minister Sandov pointed out that the process of EU enlargement is a major stimulus for promoting peace, stability, and prosperity in the Western Balkans. He praised Albania for growing closer to the Euro-Atlantic community and welcomed the determination to make progress with their reform agenda and build on the achieved positive results.

“Bulgaria is ready to support the adoption of the framework for negotiations for Albania and the holding of the first intergovernmental conference,” said Minister Sandov and emphasized that guiding for our country is the principle of each candidate’s own merits. He confirmed the MOEW stands ready to share its experience in transposing and implementing European environmental legislation, as well as to provide expert assistance to Albanian counterparts in the pre-accession process, in particular in respect to the negotiations on the Environment chapter.

In conclusion, Minister Sandov confirmed his readiness to hold a meeting with the Minister of Environment and Tourism of Albania Ms. Mirela Kumbaro.
