  • A public portal with specific data on the status of the river catchment is now operational

The MOEW presented the Water Management System for the Iskar River basin. It aims to reduce the risk of flooding and increase the effectiveness of the various stakeholders directly involved in the water management process, said Steliyan Dimitrov from the Bulgarian River Consortium. The project is funded under the Operational Programme "Environment" (2014-2020).

The data will be received in real time and the forecasts will serve the prevention and protection measures for more than 1.3 million inhabitants of eight municipalities - Sofia, Svoge, Kostinbrod, Elin Pelin, Gorna Malina, Slivnitsa, Roman, and Botevgrad.

The system is a pilot and is expected to be upgraded in the next programming period, said the project manager Krasimira Yankova from the Directorate of Water Management at the Ministry of Environment. The project is the first phase of the National Real Time Water Management System, which the MOEW has announced previously.

Yellow, orange and red codes will warn institutions and citizens about the level of the Iskar River through the public portal of the system. These codes are linked to threshold values for water level - yellow for caution, orange for warning, red for alert.

On the public portal https://suvbri.moew.government.bg/ you can get find detailed data on the state of the Iskar River catchment, up-to-date information on forecasts and precipitation, as well as values for the level and available volume in the Iskar, Pancharevo, and Ognyanovo dams.
