A new protected area near Svilegrad has been declared - “Sladun”

A Protected area “Sladun” has been declared by order of the Minister of Environment and Water Borislav Sandov.

 The area is located within the land of the village of Sladun, municipality of Svilengrad. Within its pastures with an area of over 1 700 decares, the presence on the Balkans of two Anatolian plant species are preserved - Thymus Aznavourii Velen and Dorycnium haussknechtii Boiss. The Thymus Aznavourii Velen is listed in Annex I of the Berne Convention.

 Within the boundaries of the protected area, the following are forbidden: change in the purpose and the permanent use of the land, the construction and creation of new roads, the introduction of non-native species and the exploration, and extraction of underground resources.

 The regional environmental and water inspectorate - Haskovo must enter the new protected territory in the cadastral maps and land registers of the village of Sladun. It is also entered in the State Register of Protected Areas at the Ministry of Environment and Water.
