The MOEW will submit amendments to the Water Act to the Council of Ministers for discussion. The new texts supplement and specify the restrictions on water abstraction from surface waters and more precisely from inland rivers.

The Collegium at the Ministry of Environment and Water reviewed the Act amending and complimenting the Water Act, which proposes a prohibition on the issuance of permits for water diversions for hydropower plants from inland rivers.

The change is necessary due to the need for protection of aquatic ecosystems and constitutes a preventive measure against the deteriorating condition of surface water bodies.
