Bulgaria received an invitation to acquire “Participant” status in the Committee on Environmental Policy at the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). The Minister of Environment and Water Asen Lichev was informed by letter from the OECD Secretary General Matthias Corman about the OECD Council decision to upgrade Bulgaria’s status in the Committee from “Guest” to “Participant”.

The acquisition of this status will enable Bulgarian experts to participate more thoroughly in the discussions and to exchange valuable and necessary experience, as well as good practices with other countries on the utilization of OECD instruments in the field of environment.

The visibility of the country in the organization will also increase, while constant and quality participation in the meetings of the Committee and working groups’ expert meetings will be guaranteed. Our contribution to these meetings will certainly help raise the prestige of Bulgaria and will positively influence decision-making on the Bulgarian membership application.
