“A team from the Ministry of Environment and Water has been involved in the development of an agreement for coordination and efficient interaction to prevent crimes against the environment.” This was said by the Minister of Environment and Water Rositsa Karamfilova during at a parliamentary committee hearing.

“We firmly stand by the position that the creation of a mechanism to optimize the coordination between the control bodies is of significant benefit,” added Minister Karamfilova.

She explained that, jointly with the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Agriculture, work is being done to structure a unit that will act to protect the environment. “We should not let this be a wishful agreement only on paper. An effective structure with the appropriate capacity and responsibilities must be created,” added Minister Karamfilova.

Minister Karamfilova also answered questions related to the infringement procedures against our country. She drew attention to those related to air quality and recalled that in September representatives of the Ministry of Environment and Water attended the “oral contests” under the infringement procedure for fine particulate matter (FP1010). “We showed a sustainable trend, the team was well prepared,” the minister added. She also explained to the MPs from the committee that the attorney general came to the conclusion that there was no reason to impose sanctions and recommended that the Court should reject the claim by the European Commission.
