A report on the Update of the marine environmental assessment, definitions and objectives for the good status of the marine environment as a first stage of the update of the Marine Strategy and Programs of Measures for 2022-2027, has been published for public consultation on the website of the Ministry of Environment and Water and the one of the Black Sea Basin Directorate.

The consultation will be held for a period of one month - from October 22, 2021 to November 22, 2021.

The Marine Strategy of the Republic of Bulgaria has been developed in order to achieve a good state of the marine environment in accordance with the requirements of the Framework Directive on the Marine Strategy of the European Union and is updated every 6 years.

The prepared Updated assessment of the marine environment, definitions and objectives for the good state of the marine environment is the first stage for drafting the Second Marine Strategy of the Republic of Bulgaria and the Program of measures for the period 2022-2027.

The updated assessment of the marine environment contains information on the state of the marine environment, the characteristics of the good state of the marine environment, the proposed environmental objectives and related criteria, indicators and thresholds, including the extent to which it has reached a good condition. It was developed by a team of the Institute of Oceanology at the Bulgarian Academy of Science under a contract financed by the Enterprise for Management of Environmental Protection Activities.

The active participation of all competent authorities, stakeholders, and the general public is of key importance in the development of the Second Maritime Strategy of the Republic of Bulgaria and its implementation.
