The OECD Environmental Policy Committee took a decision that Bulgaria meets the organisation’s high environmental standards under 24 recommendations, 6 declarations, and 16 key principles in various areas, including biodiversity, climate change, water management, clean air, resource productivity, environmental information, and transbborder cooperation.

The Committee’s positive assessment in the OECD pre-accession process provides a clear sign of the high appreciation for both Bulgaria’s sound legal framework in the environmental field and its successful implementation through targeted policies and good practices.

Compliance with the OECD legal instruments and core principles is a prerequisite for membership in the organisation and the success achieved through this positive evaluation represents a significant step towards full compliance with the Committee’s standards.

A review by the Resource Productivity and Waste Working Group is due to take place in November 2023, whereby the MOEW will present the compliance with four legally binding decisions and four recommendations.
