Today, June 30, 2026, the Ministry of Environment and Water of the Republic of Bulgaria is making available the response from the Ministry of Environment and Water of the Republic of Bulgaria—in a letter ref. No. 99-00-127-36 dated June 30, 2026 to the Finnish Environment Institute regarding Bulgaria’s remarks and comments on the transboundary EIA procedure for an investment proposal for the “Construction of a small modular reactor (SMR) plant intended to generate heat for the district heating network of the city of Kuopio, North Savo region, Finland,” commissioned by Kuopion Energia Oy.

Today, May 27, 2026, the Ministry of Environment and Water of the Republic of Bulgaria is making available a letter, ref. no. 99-00-127 -20/May 21, 2026, from the Finnish Environment Institute, through which a notification was received in accordance with Article 3 of the Convention on Environmental Impact Assessment in a Transboundary Context (Espoo Convention), regarding the transboundary EIA procedure for an investment proposal for the “Construction of a small modular reactor (SMR) plant intended for heat production for the district heating network of the city of Kuopio, North Savo region, Finland,” commissioned by Kuopion Energia Oy.

In view of this, the deadline for submitting comments to the Ministry of Environment and Water regarding the relevant investment proposal is June 10, 2026.

Response from the Ministry of Environment and Water of the Republic of Bulgaria—via letter Ref. No. 99-00-127-12 dated May 4, 2026 The Minister of Environment and Water informed the Finnish Environment Institute that Bulgaria will participate in the transboundary EIA procedure for an investment proposal for the “Construction of a small modular reactor (SMR) plant intended for heat production for the district heating network of the city of Kuopio, North Savo region, Finland,” commissioned by Kuopion Energia Oy.

Today, April 21, 2026, the Ministry of Environment and Water of the Republic of Bulgaria is making available a letter, ref. no. 99-00-127/ April 15, 2026, from the Finnish Environment Institute regarding an investment proposal for the “Construction of a small modular reactor (SMR) plant intended for heat production for the district heating network of the city of Kuopio, North Savo region, Finland,” commissioned by Kuopion Energia Oy

In view of this, the deadline for submitting comments to the Ministry of Environment and Water on the relevant investment proposal is May 5, 2026.
