No. 99-00-129-14 dated May 4, 2026, the Minister of Environment and Water informed the Ministry of Ecological Transition, Biodiversity and International Climate and Nature Negotiations of France that Bulgaria will participate in the transboundary EIA procedure for an investment proposal for “the creation of a deep geological repository, called Cigeo, intended for the storage of high-level and long-lived radioactive waste generated by all existing nuclear facilities, as well as from the reprocessing of spent fuel used in nuclear power plants," commissioned by the National Agency for Radioactive Waste Management (ANDRA).

Today, April 21, 2026, the Ministry of Environment and Water of the Republic of Bulgaria is making available a letter, ref. No. 99-00-129/April 16, 2026, from the French Ministry of Ecological Transition, Biodiversity, and International Climate and Nature Negotiations of France regarding an investment proposal for “the creation of a deep geological repository, named Cigeo, intended for the storage of highly radioactive and long-lived waste produced by all current nuclear facilities, as well as from the reprocessing of spent fuel used in nuclear power plants,” with the National Agency for Radioactive Waste Management (ANDRA) as the contracting authority.


In view of this, the deadline for submitting comments to the Ministry of Environment and Water on the relevant investment proposal is May 5, 2026.
