Information in the supply chain

Communication of information up and down the supply chain is an essential requirement in the REACH concept. Consumers need to be informed by manufacturers and importers about the hazardous properties of the substances they supply and how to control their risks. However, in order to be able to carry out a risk assessment, providers need more information from downstream users about their own uses. REACH provides a framework in which information can be transmitted down and up the supply chain. REACH uses the existing tool to provide information on the hazardous properties of substances - the Safety Data Sheet. It must accompany chemicals down the supply chain, providing the information that consumers need to ensure the safe use of substances.
