The global Agreement on the mitigation of climate change was adopted in Paris at the 21-st session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. The Agreement envisages holding the increase of the average global temperature to well below 2 °C. The ambition is to limit this increase to 1.5 °C. The Agreement also envisages the net global greenhouse gas emissions to fall to 0 in the second half of the century. The Minister of Environment and Water Ms Ivelina Vasileva took part in the ministerial segment of the forum in Paris. In the beginning of the year the EU declared the common ambitious target of all Member States to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions of the Union by 40% by 2030. According to the Paris Agreement, each country that is a Party to it, should set targets to reduce the emissions and should as well develop a national plan for their implementation. It was agreed at the forum that developed countries shall provide funding for the developing countries that amounts to 100 billion dollars annually. This includes public and private sources of finance. Bulgaria may take part in the funding process on a voluntary basis.
